In 2024, 72 UK festivals were cancelled or postponed, doubling the number from 2023, according to the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF). This brings the total to 204 festivals lost since 2019, including those impacted by COVID-19. Rising costs and financial risks, exacerbated by the cost of living crisis, have led to cancellations such as Nozstock and NASS. AIF’s CEO voiced concerns over the government’s inaction, urging for targeted relief measures. Additionally, a proposed temporary VAT reduction on festival tickets aims to support the struggling grassroots music sector, which significantly contributes to the economy.
