New Zealand start-ups could be losing out on approximately $100 million annually in funding, according to Angus Blair, a partner at Outset Ventures. He emphasized the need for more high-risk capital to support innovation, particularly in deep technology sectors. Without additional funding, the potential for discovering successful ventures like Rocket Lab may diminish. Outset Ventures is nearing the close of its second fundraising round, aiming to secure at least $30 million from wealthy investors. This fund has previously invested in four start-ups, including Wellington’s nuclear fusion initiative, OpenStar Technologies.
