500 Global has introduced 500 MENA, a new fund aimed at technology start-ups in the Middle East and North Africa, amid a decline in regional venture capital fundraising and dealmaking. Backed by prominent Saudi investors, the fund’s size remains undisclosed. In 2024, MENA-focused funds raised $819 million, a 50% drop from 2023, while investment fell to $1.88 billion across 571 deals. However, active investors in the region grew by 20%, indicating future optimism. Led by Amjad Ahmad, who has extensive experience in MENA venture investments, the fund aims to drive innovation and economic growth in the region.
