Maersk celebrated the naming of its eleventh dual-fuel methanol containership, the Albert Maersk, in Mumbai, marking its first naming ceremony in India. This event coincided with Maersk’s announcement of a $5 billion investment opportunity pipeline in Indian ports and infrastructure. The vessel, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, has a capacity of 16,592 TEU and can sail 23,000 nautical miles on methanol. Indian Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized India’s potential to produce green fuels. Following the ceremony, Maersk’s leadership discussed future investments with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting opportunities in alternative fuels and shipbuilding aligned with India’s maritime goals.
