The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is set to launch a new asset class known as the Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) from April 1, 2025. The SIF will allow diverse investment strategies, including equity long-short and debt long-short options, with a minimum investment threshold of Rs10,000. Asset Management Companies (AMCs) must meet specific criteria to offer SIFs. The SIFs can utilize derivatives for unhedged short exposure, posing higher risks compared to traditional Portfolio Management Services. Transparency measures include mandatory portfolio disclosures and risk assessments. The AMFI will establish guidelines by March 31, 2025, to support this initiative.
