Lightrock has appointed Samir Abhyankar as partner and head of India. He joins from British International Investment, where he led the financial services group, and previously worked as a partner at TPG focusing on investments in Africa. Lightrock, an offshoot of LGT Group, manages over $5.5 billion in assets, including the $860 million Lightrock Climate Impact Fund and the $900 million Lightrock Growth Fund I. The firm has invested nearly $1 billion in Indian businesses and recently achieved a 3x return on its sale of Ummeed, which provided loans to lower- and middle-income families in India.
