Tamil Nadu’s economy showed robust growth in 2022-2023, with its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increasing by 14% to Rs 23.64 lakh crore, exceeding the national per capita income average. Per capita income reached Rs 3.08 lakh, 56% higher than the national figure. Revenue receipts rose by 17.47%, driven by a surge in both tax and non-tax revenues. The state goods and services tax (SGST) and sales taxes were major contributors. However, the state transport corporation faces financial challenges, with debts rising to Rs 21,980 crore due to increased employee costs and operational losses.
