New regulations require Australia’s largest emitters to disclose climate-related information in their annual reports, starting January 1. This initiative aims to promote net-zero investments and manage climate change financial risks. Initially affecting “group 1 reporters” with significant thresholds, companies must report on climate governance and emissions, including scope 1 and 2, with scope 3 reporting beginning in 2026. The framework will expand over three years to cover thousands of entities, enhancing Australia’s investment appeal. Non-compliance could lead to legal action from ASIC, which will adopt a flexible approach during the transition. A review is planned for 2028.
